For the past few months, every time I’ve set foot in Ulta, I’ve swatched these weird little jell-o-like eyeshadow pots on my hand and stared in awe. They’ve been sitting on my makeup queue for long enough, and after a Christmas gift card, I decided it was finally time to treat myself.
I purchased these beautiful eyeshadow wonders at Ulta Beauty for $24 a pop. That high price tag actually makes them the most expensive eye makeup I’ve ever owned.
They only come in four colors right now. I purchased three of the four (Oil Slick, Spark, and Frosted). I somehow made the wise decision to not buy all four, and that I can live without the darkest shade (FOR NOW). I hope they come out with more duochromey shades because Oil Slick is FABULOUS. Really, I just hope they come out with more shades in general. These are great.
So let’s start with what they are:
They’re clearly not powder shadows. They come in these little pots and have a gel-mousse-like consistency. It’s really odd, the consistency. It’s like a whipped Jell-O. Brushes don’t pick it up to well, so you’re pretty much limited to applying with your finger. To me, this wasn’t a con, as I usually apply any glitter or shimmer shade with either a brush with a ton of Fix+ or just my finger, to really pack on the pigment. But, I could see this being a con for some people. It gets a little messy.
The cool new product out there right now is the Stila Magnificent Metal Liquid Shadow. I tried it. It was a glitter fallout nightmare. I actually returned them to get these instead. It’s crazy how the glitter stays all day. Seriously, all day. They lasted from before work (~8 a.m) until right before bed (~9 p.m., don’t judge me, I’m old). This was way longer than I expected out of a non-powder, glitter product.
From top to bottom: Oil Slick, Spark, Frosted. Pictures do not do any justice to the glittery-amazingness of this formula. So, here’s a GIF of the swatches as I left Ulta.
And finally, here’s my editorial-ish look that I love to do with these.
